These camps will
focus on playing active games. A combination of whole group challenges and competitive games will be used to teach team and leadership skills. We will steer clear of traditional skill sports and focus on games that will be relatively new to every participant. Games will be designed to foster opportunities for kids to explore different roles and work on communication skills. What are we offering this year? This will be the first year we will be offering these programs. It is my hope to offer 2 sessions covering 2 different age ranges. Session 1 will be for children 7-9 and will focus on more basic games and general concepts of cooperation, winning and losing, conflict resolution and problem-solving. Session 2 will be for slightly older children ages 10-12. I am hoping to be able to play more sophisticated games and get involved in some more complicated group challenges. While we will continue to expand on the themes we are using with the younger kids we will also spend time examining roles of leader and follower, working on effective communication and developing a more in depth understanding of the basic social contract we enter into when we join together to play games or sports. connections to life off the playing field will also be explored. |
